When I was a youngster first learning the game, a lot of my skills and development were honed on outdoor courts.
I think that may be the case for a lot of people back then.
The outdoor game has some stark differences from the indoor game though, and so we've tweaked the Official FIBA rules slightly to represent this.
12 minutes straight-time
It's just more logistically achievable in this case.
Some of the other rule changes we've made are meant to keep the game moving so you'll get a similar amount of playing time in a game.
Shooting Fouls
- 1 free-throw
- no line-up
- inbound from the side-line, front court
No Jump Balls
- Alternating team possession.
It makes it safer and more fast-paced.
Lining up for a jump-ball is time consuming and can really slow a game down.
Also, most outdoor courts won't have the necessary circle outline painted on them in order for jump-balls to be regulated, safe and fair.
