This is one of our leagues biggest hurdles but also one of its biggest strengths.
Obviously weather happens. Often times, here in Saskatchewan you can see it coming from 20 miles out.
The Sport Report software has a feature that accesses a public provider of weather data and overlays that with the games schedule (the virtual version of 20 miles out).
We'll use this to predict potential rain-outs and get them rescheduled right away.
Of course that's not always the case. As they say, if you don't like the weather in Saskatchewan just wait 10 minutes.
Our process is that SKOBL will 'make the call' about the game status about two hours before the game time. That's really the best we can do in order to be fair to our refs and scorekeepers.
However, you don't have to cancel your game at that point. We're not going to force you to not play your game!
Upon SKOBL cancellation of a game due to weather, our data-driven scheduling software will send each player an email with a couple links for 'Agree to cancel' or 'Disagree and play'. The information will be shared between all participants and you can go from there.
If you do decide to go ahead with it, we'll gladly include it in the results.
However, if SKOBL decides to cancel a game, it will be the personal choice of the refs and scorekeepers as to their attendance and that will just depend on the person.
Our Biggest Strength
It's our biggest strength because it has no rental costs so we're able to provide more games for your buck.
I know that those immaculate hardwood floors of the Saskatoon public school gyms are the stuff that dreams are made of (/s) but it can gobble up a lot of your league fees.
Also, there's a relatively small number of indoor basketball courts compared to our growing population.
Saskatoon has several very nice, full-court 5-on-5 basketball courts and we've chosen the safest, most playable ones for our games.
